How to wash a hat?

The first thing we must do to clean a hat is to look at the label, know its composition, and wash it. If the cap does not have a title, we will have to analyze its material and shape and decide how to clean a hat with these characteristics.

If we are not sure how to wash a hat, it is best to take precautions, do the dry cleaning, and be very careful not to damage or deform the cap.

How to clean a hat: Materials

– Basin or container

– Soft bristle brush or toothbrush

– Mild soap or detergent

– Towels

– Coldwater

Step 1

Hand washing the hat is the simplest and safest way to pass a hat. For this, you need to fill a container or basin with cold water. Never with hot water as it can fade the colors and deform or shrink the hat. Once the container or basin is filled with cold water, submerge the cap without forcing its shape. The bowl must be large enough to insert the hat naturally without bending or pressing it.

This method of cleaning a hat is used for caps, hand-knitted hats, wool, or thread hats.

Step 2

To wash a hat with a lot of dirt and its composition allows you to use a little soap or mild detergent. Add a tablespoon of mild soap or detergent to the bowl of cold water and dilute it well. Please take into account the composition of the hat’s materials to adapt the soap you use to what the design of the fabrics that form it allows.

If the composition of the hat is wool, use a special soap for delicate materials such as wool. In this way, you will ensure that the cleaning of the cap is more careful and the fabric of the hat is damaged as little as possible.

Never use bleach or detergents with chlorine. It can destroy the materials of the hat and lose its color, appearance, and shape.

Step 3

To ensure that the method you choose to clean the hat is the recommended one, do a test before you start cleaning the entire cap. Choose a part of the hat that does not show much and examine how to clean a hat of this type in this area. Check that the place where you have applied the cleaning does not fade, dry out or lose its original appearance.

Perform this check when you use cleaning products that are more special or aggressive with the materials to ensure that the method chosen to clean is the correct one.

If the cleaning test has worked correctly, you can continue cleaning the entire hat.

Step 4

Once we have verified that the hat’s material is resistant to cleaning that we have chosen to make it impeccable, we will apply the technique to the entire garment.

If the dirt is generalized in everything in the hat, we will keep it immersed for about 30 minutes in the mixture of water with cleaner so that the ground, in general, comes off.

Suppose some areas of the hat are filthy. We must leave it to soak for a longer time and gently rub the most stubborn stains with a toothbrush or a soft bristle brush to loosen the most stubborn dirt.

Step 5

After having the hat soaked in cold water and detergent for a few hours, you have to rinse it to remove all the soap and traces of dirt from it. To flush the hat using cold water, you can submerge it again in a basin with clean. And cold water and rinse it until it has no soap, or you can also rinse it directly. Under the stream of cold water from the tap until you remove all the remains of the cleaner.

Step 6

After rinsing the hat well, remove the excess water that soaks the garment. To do this, use a towel or a lint-free cloth. And gently squeeze the towel over the hat with your hands. To perform this step well. Dab the towel over the cap to remove the water. Never twist. Squash with force or stretch the hat to remove excess water. If you don’t do this smoothly, you can deform, scratch, and damage the cap.

Step 7

Once the hat clean, rinsed and drained, we will go on to dry it. For this, we will let the hat dry in the most natural way possible. It is best to leave the hat to air dry in a shady place with good ventilation. Place the cap on a dry towel, give it its original shape, and dry it at your own pace.

If you want to speed up the drying process, use a fan or dryer. But always with cold air since heat not recommended as it can deform. Shrink or discolor the garment.
