Types of hair dyes

There are three types of hair dyes

  • Permanent hair dye
  • Semi-permanent hair dye 
  • Non-permanent hair dye

Permanent hair dye contains hydrogen peroxide and ammonia to lock up the desired color on hair. It is tough to remove stains or the color of permanent hair dye. On the other hand, semi-permanent or non-permanent hair dye does not contain these powerful chemicals, so their color can be washed out easily.

How to remove hair dye stains from skin

If you get a stain of hair dye on your skin, don’t panic. Despite that, you should act smart to get rid of this annoying stain. Follow the instructions to get rid of these stubborn stains.

  • Use Baking soda and dish soap.

Baking soda and dish soap can remove tough stains. When baking soda and dish soap are combined, they become very effective in removing tough dye stains. Mix dish soap and baking soda. Make sure that you use baking soda in small amounts because excess baking soda can harm the skin. Apply the solution to the affected area and gently rub on the stain. Try not to scrub it hard otherwise. It causes Skin damage. After this, rinse it with cold water.

  • Use Vaseline or petroleum jelly to get hair dye off skin

Vaseline or petroleum jelly is very helpful for removing the stains of hair dye from the skin. You have to apply some vaseline or petroleum jelly on the stain of hair dye and gently massage your skin. You can see that gradually it removes the stains. 

  • Using toothpaste to get hair dye off skin

Toothpaste is very effective at removing dye stains. The reason is that toothpaste contains a small amount of baking soda and can act as an exfoliator. Gently rub a small amount of toothpaste on your skin to avoid rubbing with the toothbrush because it can harm your skin. Could you not use it near your eyes?

  • Use mayonnaise 

Mayonnaise contains oil and vinegar that help remove the dye stains. Apply some mayonnaise on the stain and leave it for a few minutes to sit. After this, remove it with the help of a paper towel or piece of cloth.

  • Use essential oils

Essential oils play a crucial role in removing the dye stains or hair dye color from the skin. All oils are effective for lifting the dye color off from the skin, but we prefer olive oil as it is best for this purpose. Olive oil is natural and does not have any side effects on our skin. It also acts as a natural stain lifter from the skin. Pour some olive oil on a small piece of cotton and rub the stain in round motion until the stain or dye color vanishes. After this, use cold water to remove oil from the skin.

  • Using lotion and rubbing alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is a cleaning agent as well as a germ killer. Pour some rubbing alcohol on a small piece of cotton and rub it on the hair dye stain. Avoid using it near the eyes. After this, use some lotion to moisturize your skin.

  • Use nail polish remover. 

If the hair dye stains on your hands and nails, we prefer to remove it using nail paint remover. Make sure that it is not suitable for use on the face. The reason is that it could damage or irritate any delicate skin.

How to avoid hair dye stains?

Removing hair dye stains off the skin is a difficult task, and sometimes it will be very annoying. Moreover, they can also cause damage to sensitive skin. It would help if you tried to prevent your skin from these annoying stains of hair dye. The first thing to avoid hair dye staining your skin is to avoid it getting on the skin. Coat a thin layer of petroleum jelly or any essential oil on your face ( starting from your forehead to chin), the area around your neck and ears. This will help to avoid hair dye contact with the skin. You should also wear gloves to prevent staining your hands and nails. If a drop of hair dye drips on your body, wipe it as much as it happened.
